Origin, shape and even a pasta family tree
Some months ago I presented you, The Geometry of Pasta, an innovative book about pasta, with stunning pictures and concerning the geometry of each shape and the relation with the different sauces.
This book has been a big success thanks to the innovative way to look at one of the most famous food in the world.

Yesterday I discovered that soon will be released on the market another book that probably take inspiration by that one: this one will analyze in a very technical way the design of each pasta shape, trying to discover the origin of them, the relation between them and their best use.

Here a little description and some pictures from this latest book: Pasta by Design (Thames & Hudson).
"Architect and designer George L. Legendre has compiled and profiled 92 different kinds of pasta, classifying them into types using the science of ‘phylogeny’ (the study of relatedness among natural forms). Opening the book is a pasta family tree, revealing unexpected relationships between pasta shapes, their usage and common DNA.
Each subsequent spread is devoted to a single pasta, and features a short text that explains the food’s geographical origin, its process of manufacture as well as its etymology – alongside suggestions for minute-perfect preparation."

We thank the site Dezeen.com for the pictures and the news and if you want to try to win a copy of the book, you can participate here.
