Fun facts This pasta is called spaghetti thanks to its similarity to thick string. The first official mention of spaghetti was in the Domestic Vocabulary written by Giacinto Carena (1846), where they were listed along with "capelloni, spilloni and vermicelli"; just a few years later the same types of pasta were listed in the famous Tommaseo-Bellini dictionary, published 1861-1879.
