CuriositàSpaghetti are called so thanks to their similarity to a large piece of string (spago). The first reference to spaghetti is in the Vocabolario Domestico (Domestic Vocabulary) by Giacinto Carena (1846) where they are listed along with "capelloni, spilloni and vermicelli"; just a few years later spaghetti appeared in the famous Tommaseo-Bellini Dictionary, published 1861-1879. These are special spaghetti, double-length than normal spaghetti.
