On this page you can see some historic images of the city of Gragnano. These photographs are evidence of the importance of the pasta production in this city. There are several icons that refer to the pasta and its raw materials. For instance, on a fountain is carved a bas-relief of an ear of corn, then you can see the crest of an old pasta factory, the wheat fields and ancient access portals, and you can see via Roma when the pasta was dried on the "preferred route from the best breeze of the Gulf of Naples. "
The numerous fountains symbolize the importance of water for this city and for the production of pasta. Along the Mill Valley, the old path, now paved, along the river Vernotico, until about a century ago were active twenty-five water mills for grinding durum wheat. Many of these water mills dated to the thirteenth century..
Even today, the architectural structure of the city, despite the natural disasters (like the earthquake of 1980), is the living testimony of the importance of pasta production for Gragnano.
